Birmingham Girls Choir welcomes singers from all religious, racial, cultural, and economic backgrounds. If your daughter loves to sing, we’d love to meet her — no prior musical training required.
How to Join
Girls do not need to have any prior musical training to be a part of Birmingham Girls Choir. A new singer will need to schedule a time to meet with one of our directors to allow them to evaluate her voice.
Singers don’t need to prepare anything for this meeting — they’ll simply be asked to sing a few patterns and a familiar song like “Happy Birthday.” In this low-stress meeting, directors listen for the singer’s ability to match pitch and sing simple patterns. However, if you have a song prepared, we would love to hear it!
Auditions
The Birmingham Girls Choir staff is excited to meet all interested singers and families. Several Saturday audition dates are held each summer.
We also love to hear potential singers throughout the school year and will schedule you individually when you fill out the Audition Request Form. There’s no need to prepare a song — this is a very informal “get to know your voice” opportunity, so please don’t be nervous!

Does my daughter need prior musical experience?
No. Girls do not need any prior musical training to be a part of Birmingham Girls Choir.
What should she prepare for the audition?
Nothing is required. She’ll simply sing a few patterns and a familiar song like “Happy Birthday” or “My Country ‘Tis of Thee.” If she has a song prepared, we’d love to hear it!
Is the audition stressful?
Not at all — it’s an informal “get to know your voice” opportunity. Please don’t be nervous; we’re excited to meet you and hear you sing!
When are auditions held?
Several Saturday audition dates are held each summer. We also hear singers individually throughout the school year — just fill out the Audition Request Form.
